Five Strange Tales from Ouija Boards

Using a Ouija board is not always a harmless or fun activity. Many people have reported having strange, scary, or even dangerous experiences after playing with a Ouija board. Some claim that they have contacted evil or malicious entities, who have lied, threatened, or cursed them. Others say that they have experienced paranormal phenomena, such as noises, voices, apparitions, or poltergeist activity. Some even believe that they have opened a portal to another dimension, or invited demonic possession as we will see in the following video.

The text below is the script for the video.

Zozo demon from Ouija board

Welcome to my channel. I make AI images of strange and weird occurrences and turn them into video. This one is about Ouija boards. I remember being a kid, maybe somewhere between 8-10 years old, playing with a homemade Ouija board or something like it with a bunch of older kids. They were maybe early teens.

I thought the experience was uneventful because nothing special happened so I had tucked the experience away in my head until I saw The Exorcist as an adult. Since then, the thought of WHAT IF had been tickling me.

Just a quick background, Ouija boards have long been a source of fascination and fear. Some believe that they can be used to contact spirits, while others believe that they are simply a parlor game.

Ouija board is a gateway to the spirit world

But there are those who claim that Ouija boards can actually open a portal to the spirit world that could lead to hauntings and other strange experiences.

If I recall correctly, contacting the spirits is what our little group tried to do. I doubt we were trying to open a portal. But in this video, we’ll talk about five hauntings and strange experiences stemming from the use of Ouija boards.

First, a couple of strange experiences. These are essentially things that happened associated with Ouija boards that did not lead to anything violent or harmful.

Emily Grant Hutchings

Jap Herron: A Novel Written from the Ouija Board dictated by Mark Twain

In 1917, author Emily Grant Hutchings claimed that her book, Jap Herron: A Novel Written from the Ouija Board was dictated by Mark Twain's spirit through the use of a Ouija board. It’s in the book’s title.

Ms. Hutchings claimed that the “writing” experience took about two years. Mark Twain died in 1910 which is 7 years prior to the composition of the novel.

Jane Wolfe

An actress from the Silent Movie Era, Jane Wolfe was also a leading spiritualist and used the Ouija board. According to many sources online, Ms. Wolfe established contact with a few spirits of good and malign nature.

Ms. Wolfe was also a friend and colleague of Aleister Crowley, the famous occultist / philosopher and founder of Thelema religion. Now, for the hauntings:

Roland Doe

Sometime in the 1940s, teenager Roland Doe used a Ouija board, which the Catholic Church said led to his possession by a demon. Roland was an only child and just had adults in his household for playmates, which is primarily his Aunt Harriet. His aunt was also a spiritualist and introduced Roland to the ouija board.

After Aunt Harriet's death, the family began hearing strange noises and seeing objects like furniture moving on its own and flower vases levitating when the boy was nearby.

The family committed to exorcize the boy and had to do it multiple times. In one of those times, two priests visited Roland and they allegedly observed a shaking bed, flying objects, and the boy speaking in a guttural voice while exhibiting an aversion to anything sacred.

After the exorcisms, Roland went on to live “a rather ordinary life.” And his story is the inspiration for the book and movie, The Exorcist.

Zozo demon

Zozo demon from Ouija board legend

The Zozo demon is often associated with Ouija board hauntings. It is said to be a malevolent spirit that can attach itself to people who use the board.

The Zozo demon is often depicted as a tall, thin figure with long, sharp claws. And has been blamed for a number of strange and disturbing phenomena, including the possession of Roland Doe. It is said that the Zozo demon can cause a variety of physical and mental problems, including death.

P13 - Joshua Tucker

In 2008, teenager Joshua Tucker was tried and found guilty of murdering his friend’s and accomplice’s family members.

His mother insisted that he had carried out the murders while possessed by the Devil, after he and his friend/accomplice began using the Ouija board. In this case, the Devil himself, a.k.a. Lucifer, not the Zozo demon, is the entity behind the Ouija board haunting.

Fyi, there is one more article that I wrote about summoning the Devil in the legend of Stull Cemetery.
