Legend of Stull Cemetery
What would a gate of hell look like?
Will there be lots of fire?
Is it just cold and dark?
Will there be anything guarding it?
In the small rural town of Stull, Kansas, there’s a popular legend of
a portal leading down to hell, itself.
In the town’s cemetery, there’s supposed to be
a mystical set of stairs under the ruins of what used to be a church. And it is supposed to lead down to the abyss.
Those who claimed to have tried going down there say that they experienced strangeness such as losing gaps of time, chilling sensation, and heavy feelings of dread.
So begs the question, if this doorway truly exists, who is supposed to use it?
There was an article published in November 1974 by the student newspaper of the University of Kansas, the devil, yes – Lucifer, is supposed to visit the Stull Cemetery twice a year, on midnight of Halloween and spring equinox to visit the grave site of his son and his son’s mother.
According to Wikipedia, this article is what kicked off the Stull Cemetery’s urban legend as one of the most haunted places in America.
Since then, as you may have guessed, Stull Cemetery has become quite a popular destination for curious onlookers,
especially during Halloween.
Typically by plenty of teenagers and young adults.
Of course, throughout the years, Stull residents have come to detest the attention and the ‘tourism’.
Over the decades, sheriffs and locals have kept a watchful eye on Stull Cemetery, making sure to ward off unwanted visitors.
But no one has ever made a claim seeing the devil walking out of the gate.
But WHAT IF he does?
Satan walking through the doorway of hell would be a sight to see. Don’t you think?
After all, he is an angel. A fallen one, but still an angel. And according to many sources, a beautiful angel. And powerful.
As the king of hell, will his entrance be majestic?
Diabolical?
No one really knows.
But to me, I think it’ll be horrific. Something straight out of a nightmare.
Now, his child was supposed to be deformed at birth with wolf’s features. And did not survive long.
The mother was a witch.
She’s a member of the cult who performed satanic rituals in the church back when it was up and running.
She seduced the devil during one of his visits. Not much more is known or written about her.
According to the lore, residents of the Stull community fought back and hunted down the devil worshipers. Essentially, Stull had their own Salem witch trials.
There was supposed to be a tree near the church from which cultists and witches were hanged. The tree was chopped down in 1998.
Satan’s lover was one of the members executed.
The Wittich tombstone in Stull cemetery is said to be her burial ground, along with her child.
Again, the Stull Cemetery is private property and you should not go there without permission. Let’s just enjoy the creepy legend from afar as it is curiously eccentric.
