Welcome to my channel. I like making AI images of strange events and turning them into videos. The last one I made was for vampires of European influence. So basically along the lines of Dracula and Lestat.
While researching that subject, I discovered vampire-like mythos from Asia that are just as fascinating. I think these are perfect for Halloween. Let’s get to the lore.
Mandurugo (Philippines)
The mandurugo is a mythical vampire-like creature from Philippine folklore. It feeds on human blood mostly from men that it seduces.
They can hide in plain sight because the mandurugo usually takes the form of a young and beautiful woman by day.
But at night, it grows wings and a long, sharp tongue that it uses to suck blood from its victims. Many experts describe this tongue as proboscis, which means it has a tube-like capability like an elephant’s trunk.
The mandurugo can either make cuts in a man's neck, usually while he sleeps.
Or prick the inside of his mouth while kissing him to obtain blood.
Kuntilanak (Indonesia and Singapore)
These vampire-like creatures are also called Pontianak in Malaysia. They will look like beautiful women with pale skin, red eyes, long black hair and long sharp fingernails. They are often seen wearing blood-smeared white dresses.
In all cases, they prey on humans, mainly men. And they do so, violently. According to Wikipedia, the Kuntilanak “kills her victims by using her long fingernails to physically remove their internal organs to be eaten.”
There are also claims of when a Kuntilanak would suck brains and internal organs through a victim’s head.
In cases where the Kuntilanak wants revenge and retribution against a man for whatever reason, she eviscerates him with her bare hands.
It is also said that Kuntilanak only appears under the full moon.
It is also said that Kuntilanak impersonates crying infants or feminine laughter to draw in potential victims.
Langsuyar (Malaysia, Indonesia)
A langsuyar is similar to Kuntilanak and Pontianak in a sense that it typically looks like a young beautiful woman in a white dress.
Interestingly enough, they have a second form that’s just as popular. According to the lore, they’ve been seen wearing green robes but with long arms extending down to their feet. And long nails.
They prefer feeding on the blood of newborn male children, but will also feed on newborn females.
Krasue (various countries)
A krasue is a scary vampire-like creature and prominent in various South East Asian countries under different names. They take the form of a floating woman's head with guts and a spinal column hanging from the neck. They hover in the air to hunt for victims.
Their body will be hidden somewhere safe so that they can return to it later.
They feed on blood, flesh, and organs of humans and sometimes, animals.
It is said that they can glow to attract or hypnotize a potential victim.
Manananggal (Philippines)
Manananggal is similar to Krasue, but they separate at the lower torso instead of the neck. They also sprout bat wings to fly. And they have long proboscis tongues for sucking blood.
Legend says that they’ll usually perch on the roof of a pregnant woman's home and pierce her abdomen while she sleeps to suck on the blood of the unborn child.
When they’re out hunting, the lower half of their body is hidden somewhere safe.
