The Mothman is a legendary creature that has been seen in the skies of West Virginia since mid-60s. It is described as a humanoid monster with a 10-foot wingspan, huge red eyes, and the face of an insect. The creature’s origins have been attributed to everything from aliens to military experiments to the supernatural. Some believe that sightings of the Mothman foretell impending disaster. The Mothman was first reported in the Point Pleasant area and was later popularized by John Keel in his book, The Mothman Prophecies.

Greetings and hello! Welcome to my channel and if you’ve been here before, welcome back! In this video, I have a great one for you. It’s for the legendary Mothman of West Virginia mythos.
And FYI, these are AI-assisted images even if they look like real photos. Now, let’s get to the lore.
The Mothman
The Mothman is a legendary creature that was first reported in the Point Pleasant area of West Virginia in 1966. Described as a large, winged creature with glowing red eyes, the Mothman has become a popular figure in folklore and pop culture.
By this, I mean there are plenty of movies and TV shows with Mothman as the central figure. And there are also video games and one annual festival in Point Pleasant.
And of course, there are toys. Just look it up on Amazon.
But what is the Mothman? Is it a real creature or just a figment of our imagination? Let's take a closer look.
The first reported sighting of the Mothman occurred on November 15, 1966, two young couples from Point Pleasant reported seeing a flying creature while driving near an abandoned TNT plant. They described the creature as having large, glowing red eyes and said that it followed their car as they drove away.
During the next few days, other people reported similar sightings and local newspapers began reporting them.
Two volunteer firemen claimed it was a "large bird with red eyes".
A contractor reported that when he aimed a flashlight at a creature in a nearby field, its eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors".
Over the next year, there were many more sightings of the Mothman in the Point Pleasant area.
And then, a little over a year later in December 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed which killed 46 people. Many claimed that the mothman was the harbinger of the disaster because of the multiple prior sightings.
And since then, there have been a few more reports of mothman sightings.
In 2007, another bridge, this time an eight-lane steel bridge on I-35W collapsed during evening rush hour. Several witnesses reported into radio programs of seeing the mothman.
In October 2020, a mother and daughter saw the Mothman in their backyard perched on a fence.
And this third example and the last one we’ll talk about. In September 2011, two young female students from University of Illinois saw the Mothman staring at them through their 3rd floor apartment window.
