The Chatawa monster is a legendary creature that is said to haunt the swamps and woods near Chatawa, Mississippi. It is described as a half-man, half-ape hybrid that escaped from a circus train that derailed in the Tangipahoa swamps in the late 1800s. The Chatawa monster is known for making loud noises and occasionally showing itself to curious or frightened witnesses.
The following is the script for the video:
Welcome to my channel. I illustrate weird encounters using ai-assisted images.
In this short video, we will look at a lesser known legend from the swamps of Mississipp. It is called the Chatawa Monster.
And also known as Tangipahoa Swamp Monster, the Chatawa Beast, and the Chatawa Bigfoot.

Chatawa Monster
Something strange is roaming in the Tangipahoa swamp near Chatawa, Mississippi.
According to a local legend, a half-man, half-ape creature lives there. It is said to be between 7 and 10 feet tall and weigh between 300 and 500 pounds.
It is said that the creature was part of a traveling circus. And supposed to be very aggressive.
So they kept it locked in a cage at all times
which is probably the same treatment for other ferocious circus animals such as tigers, lions and bears.
On one unfortunate day, the circus train was passing through the swamp, but got derailed near Chatawa.
Sadly, many animals died from the accident.
Only a few monkeys survived, and likely included the apeman. And they fled into the swamp.
After the accident, local residents began seeing a large, hairy ape-like creature roaming about the swamp and wilderness. And they kept seeing this strange creature throughout the years.
One consistent source was the nuns and students from a nearby Catholic school (St. Mary, sold @ 2022).
They had been seeing a large hairy creature running around the swamp and forest. And students were often told to avoid straying too close to the river.
Supposedly, a hunting party was formed not long after the train accident to round up the ape man and maybe, the other monkeys. They came up empty.
The curious thing for me is that there aren’t that many reports of the Chatawa monster online.
What if it turns out that this apeman is a very shy and friendly creature. And not as aggressive as once thought.
And this creature is someone gentle enough you would trust to babysit your kids.
What if it turns out that the hunting party actually caught him, but subsequently changed their mind.
And now, the locals are simply hiding him and protecting him from the world.
